My Stencil Wall

Stenciled walls have been popping up all over blog land and I have been a huge fan.  I have been drooling over all of the designs and I knew the perfect wall to put it on!

So this is my stencil wall!

For starters let me show you the before.  All of my walls were this dark green.  It was really bold and some would say crazy to have an entire room with that dark of paint on it but I really did love it and we had it that way for 5 years.

But it was time for a change.  I painted all of my other walls a light grey and then the soon to be stencil wall blue.   I Wish I would have taken a picture before I started stenciling but I was too excited to get started.  But here is a picture of me working on it.

The stencil is about 18 x 18 inches and I felt like I moved that thing a million plus 1 times.  I used a sponge which made it look really pretty but it also allowed for paint seepage behind the stencil so after about 4 or 5 times I would have to take it off and clean it.  This one somewhat small wall took me ALL DAY.  This stinkin wall definitely tried my patience and at one point I almost gave up and just painted over it.

But I am so glad I stuck with it.  Now I love my stencil wall!

I love my new living room and it seems so much brighter and even bigger.  I LOVE IT!

Ribbon Pearl Necklace

Let me start by saying I love Pintrest!  Pintrest is an amazing place that you can keep all of your favorite blog projects, inspirations, and pretty much anything and everything from the world wide web.  And the best part is that is all saved in one place.  So when I am needing a project I can go to Pintrest a project out of all of the projects I already have saved.  I don't have to go to a million blogs or websites to find that project I saw somewhere but can't remember where.  You really should check it out and follow my pins as well!

Follow Me on Pinterest

Anywho, I found my next project on Pintrest.  It was originally linked back to a store but it is no longer available at that store.  So because I had to figure out how to make it myself without a tutorial I am listing this as an Idea Origianl but I was definitely inspired and didn't come up with it all by myself.

Isn't she pretty?  And it is really much easier to make then it looks.

Here are the supplies that you will need:
Pearls (I bought 3 packages but only ended up using one for each necklace)
Ribbon
Thread
Needle

Start out with two strands of Ribbon. Each strand I used measured about 2.5 - 3 feet because I wanted to make sure I had enough.  With the two pieces together tie a knot about 5-6 inches in from one end.  Then tie the thread into that knot.  The thread is what is going to go into the beads, not the ribbon.  When you very first start it will look awkward but it gets better I promise.  So the key is for each ribbon to pass over 2 beads but you want them to alternate so there is ribbon between each bead.  Thread one bead then pull the needle & thread through ribbon A, put on another bead and put the needle and thread through the ribbon B and just keep alternating making sure not to twist the ribbon.  So now that you are confused know exactly what I am talking about let me show you the pictures and that should help a lot.

I used one package of pearls per necklace.  After I threaded the last pearl I again put the 2 ribbon strands together and tied a knot tight against that last pearl.  Trim Ribbon B close to the knot so you are left with only Ribbon A.  Make sure you trim Ribbon B off of the starting end as well so you have 2 single ribbon ends to tie together.  Then with the two ends I decided how long I wanted my necklace to be, tied another knot and trimmed the loose ends.

I made 2, a purple and a black and I love them both have worn them many times.

Ruffles & Buttons T Shirt Refashion

Dorian from busily spinning momma created this amazing t shirt refashion tutorial that I knew I had to try as soon as I saw it.

So let me introduce you to my Ruffles & Buttons Tee

Can you believe it all started with just a simple Long Sleeve Shirt.  Earlier in the day I went to the Salvation Army and found this new long sleeve shirt that still had the tags on it for only $2.  Perfect!

Dorian's tutorial is very well done with lots of pictures and very easy to follow.  So easy in fact that I had no problem!  I finished mine while watching the Second Harry Potter and was finished well before the movie.

Here are some more shots of my version.

And here is Dorian's and don't forget to check out her tutorial here

Sewing Skirts

My sisters, my mom and I like to get to get together several times a year and we have craft days. Sometimes we scrapbook, sometimes we sew, and sometimes we just bring whatever we are working on just so we can spend an afternoon together laughing and of course eating chocolate.

Recently we had a sew day. We all used this same pattern.

A total of four skirts were made and it was fun to see how different they all turned out just by using different patterns of fabric.  Now I was not bloggy prepared and I forgot my camera but all of my sisters promised they would take pictures and send them to me, BUT none of them did (I am calling you all out!!)  So I only have a picture of mine.

It was really a pretty easy pattern.  One of my sisters and I cut ours out together and between the 2 of us cutting pieces we cut some out in large and some out in medium so we had to do a little altering but even with that it was still very easy.  In fact I am hoping to make another sometime soon.

Sponge Balls

One Charming Party has a great tutorial on how to make fun sponge balls that are perfect to take to the lake, pool, or just play with in the front yard. They are fun to play with wet or dry!

This is theirs

Here are mine!

These are really so easy to make and very inexpensive.  I made 6 balls for $1, yup just $1!

You will need
  • sponges (I purchased a 10 pk from the $1 Store)
  • zip ties
  • scissors

Cut each sponge into 4 strips

Stack 6 sponge strips and wrap with a zip tie

When you tighten the zip tie the ball automatically forms

Trim the end of the zip tie as close to the end as you can

And walaah! You have a sponge ball.  Easy Peasy!

What games would you play with these?
