No Sew Ruffle Christmas Tree Skirt

Let me start of by saying

Happy Halloween!

Now thats out of the way, let's talk Christmas!

I absolutely love Christmas and I am actually even listening to Christmas music right now while I write this post.

Last weekend my sisters and my mom got together for a craft day.  Oh how I love our family craft days.

My sister Carla worked on the baby booties that she sells.  They are so cute!

My sister Tracy also worked on a Christmas Tree Skirt.  She created her pattern from scratch with her Sillhouette software.  She is a pretty smart cookie!

My Mom was crocheting a scarf.  She is pretty talented too even though she wont admit it.

I wanted to make a Christmas Tree Skirt and found this little beauty on Pinterest.  This one is made by Puttin' on the G.R.I.T.S.

I love all of the ruffles and the best part is, it is NO SEW!  I love those two little words.  AND I could use my current UGLY Tree skirt as the base and hot glue my ruffles onto that.

This is my tree skirt BEFORE

And this is the AFTER.  I think there is a huge improvement!

I told my husband the only proper wayt to take a picture of the skirt would be to put the Christmas tree up, but he didn't go got it.  I tried.

I started by picking my fabric.  I know on Pinterest there are several different styles of this No Sew Ruffled Christmas Tree Skirt and I couldn't decide if I wanted to use burlap, muslin, satin, cotton, or a combination.  Then I found this fabric at Hobby Lobby and I knew right away it was going to be my Christmas Tree Skirt.

I can't remember the exact name of the fabric but it is a heavy cotton almost like a canvas.

I cut the fabric into 3 inch wide strips and got on the floor with my glue gun, lots of glue sticks, and my ugly old tree skirt.

I started at the bottom of the skirt alternating the two colors in rows until I got  to the center. If you look at the very center it doesn't match perfectly but I figure that will be right under the center of the tree and most people don't crawl around under there (unless of course you are a small white Chihuahua dog that lives in my house.  She loves to hang out under the Christmas Tree, but I don't think she will point it out to anyone either).

I absolutely love how it turned out and even my husband said it was a HUGE improvement, and that is saying something.

The tutorial did say that you would need a total of about 4 yards but I had at least 3/4 yard of EACH of my pieces of fabric.  So I guess it depends on how wide you cut your strips and how close you put your ruffles.

  20. What a great way to revamp an old skirt! I know I always buy a skirt then start disliking it in few years, and want to try something different. The no-sew aspect just makes it better :-)

    1. It hasn't frayed a lot, but honestly I am ok if it frays because it will add to the look. You could use pinking shears if your were worried about the frying or hem the strips of fabric before you glue them around the skirt.
