I don't know about you but when I am sitting at my computer I like to have my feet up on something. It makes it so much easier for me to sit for a long period of time.
At work I have a cardboard box and I have to place my feet just right on or it will cave in. So I decided it was time to fix that.
So I headed to my local craft store Hobby Lobby and found this perfect wooden stool.
It was $9.99 and then I used my 40% off coupon which made it $5.99 - AWESOME!
I also found some Chevron Duck Cloth in the remnant pile that was perfect!
I didn't want to paint the base, I wanted to stain it. While looking at the stain I found some staining medium that you mix with any color acrylic paint and use the same as the stain. Again AWESOME! So I mixed 1 part medium to 1 part acrylic paint in a plastic cup. Painted the base and then wiped it off with a rag. I love the effect it gave. It was yellow but you could still see the grain!
Next came the padded top. I had some pretty thin batting already at home so I doubled that up and cut is just larger then the top. I did the same with Chevron fabric and cut it a little larger then the batting.
I dug out my husband's heavy stapler thing (I actually have no clue what that thing is called. Can you tell?) and tightly pulled the fabric and stapled it in place. First I stapled the center of each side pulling tight and moving around from there. Whether that is the correct procedure I have no idea but it worked.
I trimmed the edges of the fabric close to the staples, and while the top looked nice the underneath did not. I first thought of just leaving it because no one will really see it, but then a friend suggested I trim it up with some ribbon to cover it up. Brilliant! It looked sooooo much better!
Now I have something nice a cushy to put my feet on while at my desk at work.
Now I need to make me one for home too!

This stool came out so cute. I have a link party and would love to have you share it with everyone. Here is the link to the party.

ReplyDeleteI love this idea. I used to have a little wooden stool in my classroom and it "disappeared" last year. I'm going to ask a student to make me a new one so I can finish it like this. I love having my feet up when I'm sitting too.
