DIY Yellow Felt Flower Scarf

I am sure that you have seen beautiful felt flower scarfs popping up all over blog land.  I have seen them for awhile but couldn't quite figure out how to make one.  That is until Amy at Watch Me Daddy posted a wonderful step by step tutorial WITH PICTURES!

She made it look so easy that of course I couldn't wait to make one of my own.  But I did do mine just a little bit different, because that's what I do!

The thought of cutting all of those circles out by hand made me spin, so...
I cheated.  Hey, that's what I am good at!

Sizzix Flower Dies

I used 2 different Sizzix Big Shot dies to cut my flowers.  That way they were more uniform and much easier to cut.  I used the Bigz Island Flower and the Bigz L Fun Flowers.  Both of these dies are Stampin' Up Exclusives but if you are interested in them please let me know and I can get you set up with a demo (not me, but a good friend of mine).

After my flowers were all cut out I assembled them exactly as Amy instructed and I ended up with this beautiful pile of flowers.

Felt Flowers

For the base of the scarf I cut a strip of felt about 2 1/2 inches wide and 38 inches long.  I ended up using 17 flowers.  I sewed each flower onto the strip of felt by hand.  Then I rounded and trimmed the ends so the flowers would blend in more and Wallah!

I really love how it turned out and I get compliments on it every time I wear it.  I like that it isn't big or bulky so I don't mind wearing it all day.

Paper Strip Hearts

I love hearts!  And there is no better way to decorate for Valentine's Day then with hearts!

Mandy from Sugar Bee Crafts shared a tutorial for Paper Strip Hearts and I just knew that I needed to make some!  Here are her's hanging from a light fixture.  ( I wish I had a fun light fixture to hang mine from)

Here are mine!  They really are so fun and simple to make and would be a great craft to make with kids.

First I chose my paper.  I chose some paper that touches of glitter in it and double sided patterend paper.

All my hearts I made the measurements just a little bit different so they would all vary in size but the strips were all 1 inch wide.  For this particular heart the 2 small reds were 5 inches long, the pink were 6 1/2 inches long and the patterned red where 8 inches long.

Stack them as shown above and bring the bottoms of all the slips of paper together and staple.

This is kinda of the tricky part but after doing the first one it gets much easier.  take 3 strips at a time and do the same thing, and bring all the ends together till they are even and then do the same to the other strips pulling them in the opposite direction.  Then bring all 6 ends together, make sure they are even, and staple again.

Then you sill have your heart.  To hang them with string I took a glue dot and put it down the center of the heart as much as I could, put the string on it and then pinched the center and the glue dot will hold the string.  The string wont be supper strong but work just for hanging them.

My favorite thing is while they are hanging they just kind of slowly spin so they are always moving.

I hung some at my desk at work

Where will you hang yours?

Tied Fleece Blanket

Now that the holidays are over I can share what we made for my Mother in Law for Christmas.  A Tied Fleece Blanket and absolutely no sewing!  Even hubby helped with it!

I purchased 2 coordinated pieces of fleece, 2 yards each.

You will needs kind of a big space to work because you then lay the  fabric out layering the one on top of the other.

Take a good pair of scissors and make slits along one side about every inch and 3-4 inches deep

Simply tie the top layer to the bottom layer with a double knot.

I didn't take a picture (I forgot) but for the corners you will want to cut a 3 x 3 square out so the corner is pretty much missing.  Then continue down the next side.

The blanket was very simple to make, and I love the fabrics that we chose.  A good friend of mine made me this blanket a couple years ago and it is by far my favorite blanket.  The 2 layers of fleece make in soft and warm.

The Best Lotion EVER!!

soft legs
I hate dry skin and I have very dry, flaky skin.  My feet are gross, my legs are always dry and itchy.  Yeah, I know, TMI, but it is true and maybe some of you are the same way (especially if you are one of my sisters!)

About a year ago a friend made me some lotion because a friend of hers from work had given her the recipe.  She loved it so much that she had to share it with me, because that is what friends do - share. Now I love it so much that I want to share it with you!

This lotion is AMAZING!  It is a thicker lotion and a touch oily (but not too much, just perfect) so if you don't have super dry skin this probably isn't the right lotion for you.  If you use this regularly the dry, flaky, itchy is going to go away.  Even the lizard heels will be soft.  Since I am starting to sound like a commercial I am going to STOP and actually share with you how to make this AMAZING lotion!

There are only 3 ingredients
  • Big bottle of Johnson's Baby Lotion (27 oz) -  I like the honey apple over the regularly scented baby lotion because i don't feel comfortable walking around smelling like a baby, but that is just me
  • Vitamin E Skin Care Cream double pack (4 oz ea)  - I found it at Walmart
  • Small Jar of Petroleum Jelly (7.5 oz) - brand doesn't matter
Lotion Ingredients

Scoop all of the ingredients into a bowl.  Save the containers so you can put the new and amazing lotion back into them.

With a hand mixer stir until well blended.

Then scoop back into regular containers.  I didn't reuse the Johnson's pump bottle because the lotion is so thick.  So you will need a couple extra containers.  I filled 7 containers. It does make a lot so don't forget to share with your friends and family because I am sure they will love this stuff too!

6 Pack of Treats

I love fun,thoughtful gifts, and who wouldn't love to receive a 6 pack of treats.  I know I would! *hint*hint*  (:

I got the idea from Catherine at Cat on a Limb.  She recovered her 6 pack box and used it as a tool caddy which is very smart.  But who wants to paint when you can grab your 6 pack and sit in front of the TV (or Pinterest) and DO NOTHING!!!

Catherine gives a great step by step tutorial with pictures so I didn't bothering catching every step.  I just did exactly what she did.

The person I was making it for really likes the color purple so I tried to pick colors that I knew she would like.

I must admit that my favorite part was drinking the Cream Soda.  Oh, how I love IBC Cream Soda.  I wanted to leave my friend a couple bottles so I drank 4 and left 2 for her.  But I didn't throw the bottles or the caps away.  I washed them out really good and then let them sit for a couple days to make sure the inside was good and dry.  Then I filled them with small candies: Smarties, Skittles, M&M's and Candy Corn.  But really any small candy would work.

Then, my favorite part, I left it on her desk at work.  It was a fun gift to make but I think it was a great gift to receive as well.
