Distressed Frame & Quote

I got some really nice frames from my work but they all had the company logo on them.  Now I love my job but that doesn't necessarily mean I want it plastered all over my house.  So I painted over it and played around with it a little bit and this is what I came up with.

The quote is one of my favorite quotes.  I don't who said it first but "A goal not written down is only a wish".

The frame holds a 4x6 picture so I started by taking the frame apart so I jsut had the outer wood frame to work with.  The frame started out as white with my work name in white, so I painted over it in a simple brown with some acrylic paint I had on hand.

I wanted kind of scratched/weathered look so I used a scrunched up grocery bag to paint on the white over the brown.

When I was finished with the white it looked like this. Then I took a piece of sand paper and rough it up just a little bit more.

I have a Craft Robo which is a vinyl cutter so I created this file with my quote, cut it out of brown vinyl and applied it to the glass of the frame.

I put some cute scrapbook paper in the frame where the picture would go and Wallah!

I really like how it turned out!  What is your favorite quote?

Diet Pepsi Key Chain

The debate is never ending over which is better, Coke or Pepsi?  My vote would definitely be Pepsi but of the diet variety.  My husband jokes that Diet Pepsi runs in my veins.  But honestly who wants to drink water?  That's what is in the toilets! (LOL!)

Did you know you could make this fun key chain out of a soda can?

When I first jumped on the Pinterest band wagon I found this pin from Lindsay at Diary of a Craft Lady.

I immediately fell in love but knew I would have to make it using good soda :)

I already had a charm key chain that had hearts on it.

So I removed the hearts and kept the jump rings so I could use them to put on the new Diet Pepsi charms.

I took a blessed can of Diet Pepsi and carefully removed the top and the bottom.

The Aluminum is very sharp so watch your tender little fingers. Cut the body of the can into thirds so you have 3 sheets to work with.

To cut out my shapes I used hand held punches.  They cut through the aluminum really well.

I actually used 2 cans of soda for this project so I could cut 2 out for each shape so it would be double sided.

When all my shapes were cut out I glued the wrong sides together of the same shape and let them dry, and used a tiny 1/8 inch whole punch to make the hole for the jump ring.  Then I used used Glossy Accents and put a thick layer on each side.  This was the long part because each side took at least 12 hours to dry.  TIP: I suggest staying close with a pin or needle in hand for the first 20 minutes so you can pop the air bubbles.  I didn't do that, and I have air bubbles :(  Also make sure you put the Glossy Accents all the way to the edge.  It will look cleaner and nicer.

When they are dry the will look shiny and pretty.

I took the jump rings from the old key chain and used them to attach the new charms.

I love my new key chain!

All of last week's posts were amazing so lets see what you guys come up with for this week!

Fun Ruffle Aprons

Every girl needs a fun flirty apron to wear in the kitchen, and that is exactly what I made for a couple of my close friends.

I came up with the pattern completely from scratch so hopefully it isn't too confusing to follow.

I started with a total of 4 yards for all 3 aprons.  I made the base pattern by folding an apron I already have in half and tracing around it with about an inch extra all the way around.

When cut out, this is what it looks like.

I double folded or hemmed the edges all the way around at 3/8 inch and sewed to secure.

For the smaller apron all of my ruffle strip were 4 inches wide, and for the adult 6 inches wides.  The strips varied in the length because I wanted to have different ruffles throughout the apron.  But they were definitely longer then the width of the apron.

I hemmed the 2 short ends and 1 long end of the ruffle strips. Leaving 1 long end raw.

When the ruffle strips were hemmed I took the long stitch on my machine and did a straight stitch 3/8 inch in across the raw edge.

Pulling on one end of the string from the straight stitch will tighten and ruffle the fabric.  You may have to work this a little bit to get an even ruffle across the whole strip of fabric.

It is easiest to work with the top ruffle and work your way down.  My ruffles started right at the waist.  To secure the ruffle strips make sure that the strip is the same width as the apron and is straight across, then pin with right sides together.   Sew.

Fold the ruffle over so right side is facing up and stitch over the ruffle again about 1/4 inch from edge.  Continue until ruffles are attached.

I used the same method for the next strap and the waist tie.  The length will depend on who the apron is for but the width was 4 inches.  Sew the long side of the strip, right sides together.

Turn the strip right side out.  Tuck the raw ends inside and sew.

For the neck strap sew to top corners of the back of apron.  Stitch over same stitch line several times to make sure it is good and secure.

For the waist tie pin to the front of the apron sewing 1/4 inch around the inside of the strap where the body of the apron is.

You are done!

They really are fun little aprons and don't take too long to sew.

I made 2 for adults and 1 for a 3 year old.
