DIY Birthday Wishes Card

I am not big into making cards but I do enjoy giving hand made cards to my friends and family.  I just love hearing someone say "You made this! It is beautiful!"

At work I was invited to participate in a Birthday Card Swap and I couldn't resist.  A Card Swap is where you make 20 (or however many people are participating) of the same card, and then they are dispersed and you get 20 different birthday cards.  Genius!

So here is my card.

I think it turned out really cute!

First, choose the paper, this is the fun part for me.  I wanted it to be springy and bright.

Scrapbook Paper Strips

Cut the sheets into strips and punch out A LOT of labels using the Curly Label Punch.

Decorative Label Punched Paper

Glue the shapes evenly spaced apart on Confetti White card stock.

Cut the 12x12 sheets into 6, 4 x 5 1/4 squares to adhere to the front of the cards.

Stamp Birthday Wishes onto a strip of Confetti White card stock and use the Decorative Label Punch to punch it out.

Birthday Wishes Decorative Label Punch

Ink the edges of the Birthday Wishes tag like I did here on Easter Egg Banner and add 3 small pearls to the bottom.

Birthday Wishes Basic Pearls

Tie a ribbon around the 4 x 5 1/4 square and put some dimensionals on the back of the Birthday Wishes tag to make it stick up off of the page just a little.

Dimensionals

Stick to the front of the square over the ribbon.

Birthday Wishes Card Front

Glue the card front onto a piece of Confetti White Card stock that measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and is folded in half.

Wallah!!

This card was really a lot of fun to design and make.  Now I think I need to make some more cards!

Magic Wands

ALL of my kids are huge Harry Pottter fans.  Even before we made these fun magic wands my children would go around putting spells on each other and having wizarding duals.  So I decided it was time for them to have proper wands.

I got the idea from Sugar Bee Crafts when she helped her kids make their own wands.

The instructions on how to make the wands are found here.  All you need is some paper, hot glue, double sided tape, and some paint to personalize them.

I made the wands and then let my kids paint them however they wanted.

After the magic wands had dried we put in our favorite Harry Potter movie and watched it together so they could practice all their spells with their new magic wands.  The kids had a ball!

Ashley's Dandelion Wishes Guest Post

First off let me introduce you to Ashley.  She blogs over at Ashley's Dandelion Wishes.

Ashley has a TON of great crafting projects going on at Ashley's Dandelion Wishes.  She has only been been blogging for about 2 months and it is amazing all of the projects she has come up with!  Ashley is also an Independant Stampin' Up! Demonstrator so if you need anything to make any of her beautiful projects please contact her and she can hook you up!

Here are a couple of my favorite projects of hers.

So without further ado, let's get to Ashley's Butterfly Wall Art Tutorial!

...

Can you imagine this hanging above your little girl's bed?  I love how simple this project is!

To begin with I cut out all of these butterflies using my Big Shot, the Beautiful Butterflies Die, and the Beautiful Wings embosslits die.  I used Pool Party, Calypso Coral, and Lucky Limeade card stock and Everyday Enchantment designer series paper.

Next I would poke a small hole with a tiny safety pin in the butterfly. (I used the Vintage Trinkets from Stampin Up for this)  The next step is to cut some fishing line to the desired length.  The you take you butterfly and string the fishing line through the hole. Then you tie a knot to secure it.  Then you continue on and add one butterfly at a time. (I'm sorry for the lack of pictures, but it was really hard to get the fishing line to show up).

The next step is to bend and cut a hanger to your desired shape.  This gives you something to display your  butterfly garlands with.  I bent my hanger using some pliers.  I also tied some Pool Party Ruffled Ribbon to my hanger.  Here is what the bent hanger looks like up close:

The other option is to hang each butterfly strand from a chandelier.  Can you imagine this decoration for a baby shower, or a wedding shower?  Kind of fun huh?! Here is what it looked liked hanging from my chandelier:

Here are some close ups of the butterflies:
